Fluoride added to municipal tap water is from phosphate fertilizer production. Florida is one of the largest producers in phosphate mining worldwide. It was a cost effective way to add more fluoride to tap water itself. Grand Rapids Michigan was the first to add this to the city water supply in 1945; Since then United States cities have implemented community water fluoridation nationwide. Some question the health effects of adding this fluoride from phosphate production to tap water. Cancer rates have increased considerably since then. European countries which have rejected water fluoridation are France, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Scotland, Belgium, Iceland, Switzlerland, Norway, Hunary, Austria, Netherlands, Luxembourg , Finland, and Northern Ireland.
